Nautical cabinet knobs are one of the easiest and most cost effective ways to update a cabinet. The hard part of installing new hardware is to find the right location and then to make sure all the hardware lines are open from door to door. For easy use, they should pull on top cupboards with flat panels being 2-4 inches from the bottom of the doors and two inches in from the open edge. When calculating the position of the handle, a simple template ensures that the distance is correct on each door.

Place some wooden kits on the back of your chosen nautical cabinet knobs and place it on the door. Try the handle out in several places to determine the optimal location. Mark its position on the door, make certain to measure and mark the whole location and not the total length of the handle. Measure placement of drill marks from the edges of the cabinet door and create a paper template showing the holes in relation to the edges of the door.
Create a template of cardboard or plywood. Cut two pieces of plywood size on the door plus 1/2 inch. Try to see if the plywood slides over the door and closes tightly. Transfer height and width measurements for nautical cabinet knobs from the edge of the door to one of the pieces of plywood. Drill holes in plywood on the correct handle position. Release the template over the cabinet door. Tap the template easily as it sits against the door. Squeeze it in place and drill the holes for the handles through the plywood and into the door.
